More Details

In bed…

The Mumdrop™ milk towel is perfect to sleep in, either on its own or with additional support. Simply snap on the bedtime layer to the front of the towel to provide absorbency and protection all night.

The bedtime layer has a super soft microfleece outer layer that will draw moisture away from your skin onto two layers of inner absorbency. The bedtime layer is finished with a waterproof barrier to ensure your pyjamas and sheet stay dry.

Each Mumdrop™ milk towel comes with the outer towel plus one snap on bedtime layer.

After a shower….

When you have finished showering, put on your Mumdrop™ milk towel to dry and support your breasts. You can then finish drying yourself and get ready without worrying about unwanted milk letdown. When used without the bedtime layer, the towel has a cotton towelling inner against your skin which is soft and very absorbent.

Another Kiwi Mum design

The Mumdrop™ milk towel is one of those products designed out of necessity by Mum - Jen Lucas.

When she was breastfeeding each of her children she found she was constantly trying to dry herself after a shower while holding one hand across her chest to stop my milk flow. This was always difficult, often messy, and never particularly successful!

So she set out designing a towel that she could whip on as soon as she got out of the shower – it needed to be comfy, supportive and also look great. After endless prototypes the Mumdrop™ milk towel was born.

Since then the early designs have developed into something more professional, with additional absorbency layers that can be snapped on and off the towel. These “bedtime” layers are perfect for wearing at night to help keep your pyjamas and sheets dry, using extra absorbency together with a waterproof barrier. No more sleeping on a towel!

Sizing

The Mumdrop™ milk towel comes in four sizes S, M, L and XL. Each towel is adjustable in size both above the bust and underneath the bust using the snaps. The front edge is also elasticated to cater for breasts of varying sizes.

The following size guidelines are based on the wearer’s top size when breastfeeding.

There is some overlap between sizes, so if you are purchasing this as a gift, you should be OK if you estimate the size top the wearer normally wears while breastfeeding (or about to have their baby). If you have a large bust you might want to go up a size just in case.

How do I wear my milk towel?

1. If using the bedtime layer, snap this on to the front of the towel using the snaps provided before you start.

2. Hold the towel behind your back with coloured cotton side facing outwards and at the tapered point of the towel towards the bottom.

3. Fold the end with the hanging loop across the front of your chest.

4. Then fold the tapered end of the towel over the top and secure in place using snaps. You need to fasten it tight enough so the towel stays up by itself.

5. Pull lower corner of the towel under your bust and fasten snugly using the snaps.

When correctly fitted your Mumdrop™ milk towel should be very comfortable and firm, supporting your breasts and absorbing any stray leaks.

FAQ

What comes with my Mumdrop™ milk towel?

Each milk towel comes with one towel and one removable bedtime layer.

What is the milk towel made from?

The outer towel is made from 100% cotton print and a bamboo towelling which is lovely and soft.

The bedtime layer has a microfleece stay dry layer close to your skin to draw moisture away from you, with two absorbent bamboo layers in the middle.

The outer layer of fabric is a breathable, waterproof polyester microfibre that retains the moisture within the bedtime layer.

When should I wear it?

Every woman is different. For light leakage, you may only need the milk towel without the bedtime layer to catch stray drips after a shower, or to provide a light barrier at night time. For heavier leakage, particularly at night, you may want to wear your usual maternity bra with breast pads, then wear the milk towel with the bedtime layer over the top. As your milk flow changes over time, you can change how you use the towel to suit your needs.

How often should I change the bedtime layer?

Hygiene is pretty important when you’re breastfeeding. No one wants to end up with any nasty infections so we recommend changing your bedtime layer for a clean one every night, particularly if you are a heavy leaker. Wash your milk towel often, just as you wash maternity bras and reusable breast pads.

Can I buy additional bedtime layers?

We currently don’t sell bedtime layers on their own, but this is definitely a possibility in the future. If this is something you’d like please let us know – if we know there is demand we’re more likely to do it!

Can I breastfeed while wearing it?

Do bear in mind the main purpose of the milk towel is not as a feeding bra, but first and foremost as a means to absorb all that extra milk. From feedback we've had, some people find it easy to just drop down one side and feed, while others find it easier to remove it before feeding.
