Picture the usual cloth nappy stash: three or four different sizes, bought and outgrown every few months, plus the folding and pinning everyone warns you about. Snazzi Pants was built to get rid of all of that. One nappy, adjustable from a newborn-ish 4kg through to an active toddler at 18kg, so what you buy at the start is still working 18 months later.

The adjusting itself takes seconds. A row of snap buttons across the front shortens or lengthens the body panel — snapped up tight for a smaller baby, released out flat as they grow — and a separate velcro waist tab handles the width, independently of the rise. Two systems, two jobs, so neither has to compromise on fit. Fold the velcro back onto its own laundry tab before it goes in the wash and it won't grab onto anything else in the machine.

  • One size fits 4kg to 18kg — grows with your baby
  • Velcro waist closure — easy to fit, easy to adjust
  • Fold-back laundry tabs — velcro won't snag in the wash
  • Snap rise adjustment — shortens or lengthens the body panel as your baby grows
  • Breathable PUL shell — waterproof without the sweaty plastic feel
  • Stay-dry suede cloth inner — wicks moisture away from skin
  • 2 bamboo/cotton pads included — soft, absorbent, long-lasting
  • No pinning, folding, or separate waterproof covers needed
  • Machine washable — just remove pads and wash

How it works

The nappy has three parts working together:

  1. A breathable PUL outer shell — waterproof but not sweaty, so air can still circulate around your baby's skin
  2. A soft, suede cloth inner lining — this is what sits against your baby's skin
  3. Two bamboo/cotton thirsty pads (included) — these slide into the pocket in the inner lining, or snap directly into the shell

You can stuff both pads in for heavier wetters or longer stretches, or use just one for lighter days. The pocket sits neatly inside the nappy — the pads stay in place and come out easily for washing.

The fit system

Velcro waist closure: gives a precise, snug fit that's easy to adjust — especially useful in the early months when your baby's waist changes quickly, and easier for caregivers and grandparents who find poppers fiddly.

Fold-back laundry tabs: the velcro folds back onto laundry tabs before washing, so it doesn't snag on other items in the machine.

Snap rise adjustment: rows of snaps along the front adjust the body panel length — snap up to shorten for a smaller baby, leave unsnapped as your baby grows. This is what makes one nappy fit from 4kg to 18kg without becoming baggy or ill-fitting.

Tip: adjust the rise snaps first, then fasten the velcro waist, for a consistent fit every change.

Why bamboo and cotton pads?

The two included pads are made from 70% bamboo and 30% cotton — not microfibre, which is common in cheaper pocket nappies but known to hold onto smells over time and can irritate sensitive skin. Bamboo is naturally soft, highly absorbent, and stays that way after repeated washing. Cotton adds durability.

What's Included?
  • 1 x Snazzi Pants Pocket Nappy shell (PUL outer, suede cloth inner)
  • 2 x bamboo/cotton thirsty pads
  • Small drawstring bag (doubles as a produce bag or busy bag)
How Many Do You Need?

Most families starting with cloth full-time need around 20–24 nappies to allow for washing and drying time. If you're doing a mix of cloth and disposable, 6–10 is a good starting point. We'd suggest trialling 3 first to make sure the fit works for your baby before committing to a full stash.

Care & Composition
Component  Composition What it does
Shell (outer) PUL — breathable waterproof fabric Keeps wetness in, lets air circulate — no sweaty plastic feel
Thirsty pads (x2, included) 70% bamboo, 30% cotton Soft against skin, highly absorbent, naturally gentle
Pocket lining (inner) Stay-dry suede cloth Wicks moisture away from baby's skin so they feel dry

Care Instructions

  • Wash 3 times before first use — this activates the full absorbency of the bamboo/cotton pads
  • Fold velcro tabs back onto laundry tabs before washing
  • Remove the pads from the pocket before washing
  • Shake solids into the toilet (a flushable liner, sold separately, makes this easier)
  • Store in a dry bucket or wet bag until wash day — do not soak
  • Warm or cold machine wash — do not boil wash
  • Use a standard detergent — avoid fabric softener, it coats the bamboo fibres and reduces absorbency
  • Line dry or tumble on low heat — avoid high heat, it damages the PUL shell and elastics
Absorbency & Inserts

Two bamboo/cotton thirsty pads are included. Stuff both pads in for heavier wetters or longer stretches, or use just one for lighter days. A third insert (sold separately) can be added to boost absorbency for heavy wetters or overnight use.

FAQs

What's the difference between a pocket nappy and an all-in-one?

With an all-in-one, the pad is permanently attached — you put it on, take it off, and wash the whole thing. With a pocket nappy, you remove the pads before washing, which means they dry faster. The trade-off is that you need to stuff the pads back in before use. Most parents find a rhythm quickly and prefer pocket nappies for drying speed.

Does it really fit from 4kg to 18kg?

Yes — the combination of snap rise adjustment (which changes the body panel length) and velcro waist closure (which adjusts independently) gives a genuinely wide fit range. Most babies from a few months old through to toddlerhood will fit comfortably.

Why velcro instead of snaps for the waist?

Velcro gives a more precise fit around the waist, especially in the early months when babies change shape quickly. It's also easier for caregivers and grandparents who aren't familiar with popper systems. The fold-back laundry tabs prevent the velcro from being a problem in the wash.

Do I need to buy inserts separately?

No — two bamboo/cotton pads are included. You can boost absorbency by adding a third insert (sold separately) for heavy wetters or overnight use if required.

Can I use this nappy overnight?

The pocket nappy is specifically designed for daytime use. For overnight, we recommend boosting with an additional insert for heavier wetters.

Why do I need to wash it 3 times before use?

Bamboo fibres need a few washes to fully open up and reach their absorbency potential. A brand-new pad will leak if you skip this step — not because the nappy is faulty, but because the fibres haven't activated yet. After three washes, you'll have the full absorbency working for you.

Can I use a flushable liner?

We recommend a washable liner that sits inside the nappy against your baby's skin — lift, shake into the toilet, and wash. If you do use disposable liners, put them in the bin; do not flush anything other than toilet paper and body waste.

How long will it last?

With proper care — no fabric softener, no high heat, no soaking — these nappies are built to last.

How many do I need for full-time cloth nappying?

Around 20–24 nappies allows for washing every second day with plenty of drying time. If you're mixing cloth and disposable, start with 6–10 and see how you go.

People Also Ask

How many cloth nappies do I need for a newborn?

Most families using cloth full-time need around 20–24 nappies to allow for a full wash and dry cycle. For part-time use alongside disposables, 6–10 is a good starting point.

What age do you stop using pocket nappies?

Snazzi Pants Pocket Nappies are one size and adjustable from around 4kg up to 18kg, which typically covers a few months old through to well into toddlerhood.

Are bamboo nappy inserts better than microfibre?

Bamboo is naturally soft, highly absorbent, and stays that way after repeated washing, whereas microfibre is more prone to holding odour over time and can irritate sensitive skin — which is why Snazzi Pants pads use a 70% bamboo, 30% cotton blend.

Can you use a pocket nappy overnight?

Pocket nappies like Snazzi Pants are designed for daytime use. For overnight, an additional insert (sold separately) is recommended to boost absorbency.

Do cloth nappies need to be washed before first use?

Yes — bamboo/cotton pads should be washed three times before first use so the fibres fully open up and reach their absorbency potential; skipping this step can cause early leaks that aren't a fault with the nappy.

Why Trust Brolly Sheets

Snazzi Pants has been part of Kiwi cloth nappy history since 2003. We brought it into the Brolly Sheets family in 2014 and have been improving the design ever since. Brolly Sheets was founded by Diane, a Kiwi mum who designed products she couldn't find anywhere else, and has been making washable, waterproof products since 2006 — not because it's a trend, but because they work better, cost less over time, and put less in landfill. That same hands-on, real-world approach shapes the Snazzi Pants Pocket Nappy today.

    Hybrid Nappy

I preferred this nappy compared to the all in one. It has a lot more absorbency for my heavy wetter and its easy enough to add another insert if required.

The velcro made it easy to get a good fit, great for first time users or Dads that find all the snaps a bit daunting.

    No complaints!

I was provided this nappy for free in exchange for a review. I got busy and accidentally left this on my 3yo for almost 5 hours and it hadn't leaked. It was heavy but not fully saturated.

    What I love:

    - easy to stuff pockets, large with front and back openings

    - snap on inserts so they don't move around as bub moves around

    - stay dry layer for comfort and easy removal of solids

    - double gusset

    - fit my 3yo well and he had no complaints about having it on

    - laundry tabs so that the hook&loop/ Velcro doesn't stick to your other laundry

    Overall I have no complaints!

Easiest nappy to use and fit

I was gifted this Snazzi Pants nappy to give an honest review.

I had always wanted to be the mum who used reusables bit was always daunted by the fitting and wash routine.

When I read how easy these were to fit and then to wash I jumped on the chance to give them a go.

I absolutely love the velcro waistband, it makes fitting a dream. having the choice to use the inners inside or outside the pocket is also super handy.

I used both inners for my 18month old to see how shed go with absorption, and they worked well without being bulky.

I think these are my new go too reusables!

    Fantastic nappies

I was gifted this nappy by Brolly Sheets to review. I’ve used several different cloth nappies on my kids over the years and I really liked this nappy. The inserts were super absorbent and we didn’t experience any leaks like we have with some reusable nappy brands. It was great having the flexibility to stuff the inserts into the pocket or snap them over the top. Lots of great features, including the wash tabs, double gussets and tummy panel. I also liked how you could stuff (and remove!) the inserts from the front or back of the nappy. The sizing seemed reasonably generous and the nappy fit my just-turned 2 year old well, without too much bulk. Washing and drying was a breeze and the nappy dried quite quickly. Highly recommended.

    Highly recommend

We really like the Snazzi Pants Hybrid nappy for our 18 month old. This was our first time trying a Velcro nappy, it worked well (she didn’t try pulling it off, no leaks, looked comfortable) and the washing tabs are a great idea to stop it from catching in the wash. The nappy is very good quality, and we particularly liked how the inserts can be put in from either end, or just clipped on top. The inserts aren’t as wide as other brands so look like they’d be very comfortable for a smaller baby, but still worked well for our chubby toddler. The print is super cute too.
